Man United have held talks with OGC Nice about a possible move to sign Jean-Clair Todibo.
Manchester United still have Harry Maguire at the club, though the Englishman may not be around at Old Trafford for too much longer.
In the event that the ex-Leicester City centre-half does leave, United will have to dip their toes back into the market and sign a replacement.
The name on the lips of RMC Sport is Jean-Clair Todibo. The OGC Nice centre-back has been linked with United already this summer, with his name back in the headlines.
According to the French publication, the signing of the young man is a’ priority’ for the ‘management’ at United, in the event that Maguire departs.
United has ‘approached the entourage’ of the defender, with ‘constructive’ discussions held over the possible signing of the 23-year-old.
It’s reiterated that nothing will happen until Maguire leaves, who is ‘no longer in’ Ten Hag’s plans.
The Red Devils will have to act quickly on this transfer, with Juventus also showing an interest in the talented Todibo.
From a Nice perspective, their management have always remained open to the sale of Todibo since last month, though only if the right offer comes in. Yes, they’d prefer to keep the defender, though their hand may well be forced.
The verdict
United need someone who is viewed as a long-term successor to Raphael Varane. Todibo could well be that player. He’d be able to slot in as and when required this season, while settling into his new surroundings.
Then, in a year or two, Todibo will be in a superb position to pick up the baton and become that regular partner for Lisandro Martinez.
