Man United are ready to sit down with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and offer him a new contract.
Manchester United are making some pretty big decisions about the playing squad this summer. It seems Erik ten Hag is pretty keen to move some players on, while others come to the fore and impress.
One man whose days initially looked numbered under Erik ten Hag was Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Englishman started out on the bench, struggling to earn any sort of playing time.
However, as the season progressed, ‘The Spider’ continued to go from strength to strength. He’s no doubt better on the ball than he was twelve months ago, as he looks to continue improving in that aspect.
Well, United are seemingly prepared to give him that time. According to the Daily Mail, the Reds ‘intend to open formal talks’ with the player over a new deal. it comes after a ‘remarkable turn around’ in form under Ten Hag.
Mail Sport sources understand Old Trafford chiefs are preparing discussions with Wan-Bissaka’s reps. Those will begin when the current transfer window closes.
The Englishman’s current deal expires next summer, though United do have the option to extend that by twelve months, in order to protect their asset.
However, United have now decided to extend Wan-Bissaka’s contract, which will include an increase on his current £100k-a-week wage packet.
The verdict
In all honesty, I’m indifferent about this one. The Englishman has the potential to be good enough to become a title-winning right-back, though the general consensus is that he’s not quite there yet.
It’s all about whether Wan-Bissaka can continue to improve and grow as a player. If he can do that, then this would be a wise decision. If not, United may have to re-evaluate his position at the club in a year or two.
