Man United’s latest signing, Rasmus Hojlund, is dealing with a back problem that will limit his playing time to start the season.
Manchester United Football Club are trending in a positive direction under Erik ten Hag, though there’s still plenty of work for the Dutchman to do.
Rasmus Hojlund is the latest player signed by the Old Trafford club, with the Dane officially unveiled on the Theatre of Dreams turf before kick-off last Saturday.
However, an injury then came to light. The 20-year-old was initially just lacking in match sharpness. Now, the Daily Mail have provided a worrying update.
According to their sources, the new United signing is dealing with an injury that will ‘limit’ his playing time at the start of the campaign.
Apparently, Hojlund has a back problem. An MRI scan that was conducted as part of his medical revealed a stress response hotspot in his back, which can be the sign of stress fractures in young players.
The Daily Mail then go on to say that Hojlund has already been ruled out of United’s opening two fixtures against Wolves and Spurs, with some sources indicating that the injury is more serious than has been disclosed.
This is a similar injury to what Marcus Rashford was dealing with a couple of years ago, and we all know how severely that problem hampered the Englishman. United will be doing their utmost to avoid a repeat scenario playing out here.
It’s obviously majorly disappointing, too. United need a striker who can come in and contribute from day one. The fact that this problem is more serious than we all thought means that there’s now added pressure on the young man to perform when he is fit.
