Man United are now in talks with Benjamin Pavard, with Ten Hag looking to sign the Frenchman.
Manchester United are seemingly on the verge of letting Harry Maguire depart the club and head to West Ham United.
As a result, Erik ten Hag is now scouring the market for a replacement. The Old Trafford side will be working with a somewhat limited budget here, though I don’t doubt there are quality players out there who are readily available.
Several names have been linked, including Jean-Clair Todibo. Today, a new name has been thrown into the mix; Benjamin Pavard.
The Frenchman is having a pretty unhappy time of it over in Bavaria at Bayern Munich, with the player looking to switch clubs during this transfer window.
Now, Florian Plettenberg has provided an update on that front. He took to Twitter to confirm that United and Pavard have held ‘concrete talks’ over potentially signing the 27-year-old. With the parties working on reaching a ‘verbal agreement’.
To further add to that, Ten Hag is ‘pushing’ to bring in the versatile defender, presumably to replace the aforementioned Maguire.
The fact that Pavard can also fill in at right-back when needed is another tick in the positive column for the defender who has never really fulfilled his potential from a few years ago.
He’s a top player who has seen playing time limited ever since making the move to Bayern. Perhaps a move to Old Trafford will reignite that fire in his belly, with Pavard looking to prove his doubters wrong.
The problem is that I don’t really see Pavard being one of the first names on the team sheet here in Manchester, either. That’s not to doubt his ability. I just think a bit-part role is all he’s capable of at the very highest level.
