Man United have reached an agreement with German side Bayer Leverkusen, over the sale of Matej Kovar.
Manchester United’s main aim right now is player sales. The Old Trafford club are looking to generate funds for Erik ten Hag to re-invest into the playing squad, though it’s proving difficult.
The Red Devils have plenty of players who are on the periphery of the first-team, while commanding mega wages that they probably do not deserve. That is making it tough for United to sell some of their assets.
One man who is attracting serious interest is Matej Kovar. It makes sense given how bright he looked during pre-season. The young shot-stopper looked super comfy with the ball at feet, while making saves when called upon.
Now, journalist Luca Bendoni has provided an update on Kovar’s future, claiming that United have ‘reached an agreement’ over the sale of the 23-year-old, as Bayer Leverkusen look to land him.
Bendoni goes on to add that if all goes as planned, the signature will take place ‘very soon’, with Kovar set to switch clubs.
This isn’t going to be a move that’ll allow United to go out there and spend big to bring someone in. Rather, it just tops up the bank balance that extra little bit.
While it will be pretty sad to see Kovar leave, United are left with no other option. The plan is to keep Andre Onana around for the best part of a decade, meaning Kovar will always be playing second fiddle.
For United, they’ve chosen to sell Kovar while his stock is still high. There’s no mention of a transfer fee, but you’d hope that the Reds have generated at least a few million quid from this one.
