Man United had scouts keeping an eye on Khephren Thuram on Friday.
Over the weekend, we covered a claim which stated that Manchester United had scouts watching Jean-Clair Todibo in action for Nice. The Ligue 1 side would draw 1-1 with Lille on Friday evening.
The defender looked decent in that game, playing his part for Nice, who conceded late to drop two points.
However, Get Football News France added another snippet of information, claiming the club were also looking at Khephren Thuram. They also ran this story on Friday evening.
According to their sources, the scout ‘is also’ monitoring the 22-year-old midfielder, as well as Todibo, during the Ligue 1 curtain raiser.
Thuram was linked with a move to sign for United’s rivals, Liverpool, earlier in the window, though that deal would happen. Understandably, Les Aiglons would like to keep ahold of the pair, who are both valued at between €40-50m (£35-43m).
These are the two positions where United need help. Though I still expect United will have to sell before they can buy. Fred has gone. Harry Maguire is another who could be out of the door soon. Will United be able to afford both these players in one window? Will Nice want to sell two prized assets? I’d doubt it.
It would probably mean United picking either Todibo or Thuram. I’d like to think United would opt to bring in a new centre-back first, purely because that player would be expected to play more due to the fact that Raphael Varane’s had his injury struggles over the last few years.
Although the Reds were looking at Thuram too, to me, this feels like a future transfer, rather than one that will be made in the here and now.
