Our Man United player ratings after the 1-0 win vs Wolves are now in.
Andre Onana – United’s best player, which says a lot. Good with the ball at feet and had complete control of his penalty area. Was perhaps a little rash diving into that challenge for the ball late on. 8/10
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Outstanding for the most part. Made some important tackles and put in a brilliant ball for the goal. Was a little slack positionally from time to time. 7/10
Raphael Varane – Scored the only goal of the game with a massive header. Defended well. 8/10
Lisandro Martinez – Had a pretty rough first half. Being booked early didn’t help. Did show some nice touches with the ball at feet. 5/10
Luke Shaw – Not as offensive as we’d like but Wolves deserve credit for that. Recovered well after taking the ball slap-bang in the face from close range. 6/10
Casemiro – Blew hot and cold. Bypassed far too easily at times, though did make some crucial tackles and blocks. 5/10
Mason Mount – Was decent enough on debut. Needs to work out some cohesion with his midfield partners, but that’s not his fault alone. All three of them share that burden. 6/10
Bruno Fernandes – Relatively ineffective for large periods but was heavily involved in the goal. Often ended up in the same space as Mount. 6/10
Antony – Probably United’s best attacker which isn’t saying much. Tried to make things happen and showed glimpses of his skill. 6/10
Alejandro Garnacho – Poor, particularly in the first half. Couldn’t beat a man or execute a pass. Got slightly better in the second half but was subbed shortly after. 4/10
Marcus Rashford – Also not good enough, though it’s clear he’s not a lead striker. Cannot hold the ball up. Nor works hard enough in the press. 3/10
Subs:
Victor Lindelof – Had a decent second half all things considered. Made some important tackles.
Jadon Sancho – Helped swing the pendulum in United’s favour. Looked positive on the ball and played with intent.
Facundo Pellistri – Looked a little lightweight, though given no help by teammates as United were sitting in.
Scott McTominay – Came on and helped see the game out. Made a big block.
