Benjamin Pavard is keen to make the move to Man United this summer, though it’s dependent on Harry Maguire.
Manchester United Football Club kicked off their season with three points at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, though it’s clear there’s much work ahead.
Further signings are needed to improve the playing squad, with Erik ten Hag still looking to switch things up at the back.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sell Harry Maguire to West Ham United, though there has been a hold-up in that deal.
Neil Custis covers the latest on this story for The Sun. He believes Maguire is holding out for a huge £15m pay-off from the Reds, with United only offering the Englishman £6m so far. The centre-back also remains unhappy at Ten Hag’s treatment of him.
The Dutchman removed the captain’s armband from Maguire this summer, after falling down the pecking order last term.
As a result, this could have a knock-on effect for United’s move to sign Benjamin Pavard. The 20-time Premier League champions have been heavily linked with the Frenchman.
The Sun describe the 27-year-old as ‘desperate’ to secure a United transfer this summer, with the player set to cost £35m. It’s a transfer that is fully dependent on a Maguire sale first.
The verdict
I do believe United will get their man in defence. It’s just posturing from Maguire, who is, understandably, trying to get himself a massive pay-off before departing. In the end, the pair will find some common ground.
Pavard feels like a direct upgrade on Maguire, while the fact he can also fill in at right-back is another tick in the positive column. The sooner this deal is done, the better it’ll be for all involved.
