Harry Maguire is currently set to stay at Man United, after a proposed move to West Ham United has fallen through.
Manchester United were looking likely to part with Harry Maguire this summer. The Englishman had agreed a big-money deal with West Ham United, with the ex-Leicester City man all set to move away from the Theatre of Dreams.
However, United have had issues when negotiating a payout with the Englishman. The club had offered £6m. Apparently, the player wants more than that in order to leave.
As a result, The Guardian believe United’s move to sell the player ‘has collapsed’, as the buying club, West Ham, ‘grew tired of waiting’ for Maguire to agree upon his exit terms with the Red Devils.
As things stand, the deal is now not going ahead. Although there is a chance the move could be ‘revived’.
Maguire had agreed personal terms with West Ham, though the London club grew tired of waiting around. That makes sense, given the fact that time is running out in the transfer window. They have to move onto other targets sooner rather than later.
West Ham would have given Maguire the opportunity to paly regular. Albeit on lower wages. The 30-year-old had been given a pay bump recently, due to United qualifying for the Champions League. Now, he looks set to stay.
The verdict
Honestly, I’m super disappointed. United managed to get a decent fee for a wantaway Maguire, though the player is asking for too much money from the club in terms of a payoff.
This is just a bad look for the Englishman. I get that he’ll earn more money by staying here, but the attitude is all wrong. He should be wanting to play regularly in order to force his way into the England setup. If he stays, that job for EURO 2024 is Levi Colwill’s to lose…
