Harry Maguire will not be heading to West Ham United this summer.
Manchester United are still looking to continue overhauling their squad this summer, though it is easier said than done. Erik ten Hag has generated some funds through player sales, though the high wages the squad members are on is making things difficult.
One man who looked pretty much set to leave was Harry Maguire. However, the Englishman remains a Red Devil. Yesterday, there were claims that a move to West Ham was collapsing, though there was a chance a deal could be revived.
Now, that transfer seems 100% dead in the water. It’s Fabrizio Romano with the information, claiming that the transfer away for the United player is ‘now off’. Maguire ‘respects’ West Ham, though there was never an agreement on personal terms.
On top of that, the 30-year-old ‘remains settled’ at United. He ‘loves the club’ and still believes he will get plenty of chances to play.
While you have to admire the mentality to remain at the highest level, you cannot help but think this is purely about money. Staying at United means he’ll take home a higher wage, even with a possible pay off from the Reds. You can’t blame him for that.
Where I can express disappointment is the attitude. Maguire is basically saying he’s not bothered about playing anymore. Instead, he’s happy to sit on the bench and cash his cheque every week.
I’m genuinely not sure where his minutes will come from. We saw it against Wolves. Ten Hag turned to Victor Lindelof before he turned to Maguire, while I still reckon Luke Shaw would be given the nod ahead of his Three Lions teammate.
