Erik ten Hag has provided a worrying injury update ahead of the game vs Nottingham Forest tomorrow.
Manchester United are absolutely desperate for a victory this weekend. The Red Devils need all three points against Nottingham Forest, though it will not be an easy game by any stretch.
Erik ten Hag’s side have looked poor in the first couple of games. It’s down to the boss and his coaching staff to fix that. The fans need some encouragement from the players here.
Ahead of the game, the Dutchman has met the media, to provide a worrying injury update. Luke Shaw and Mason Mount will be absent for quite some time, while Tyrell Malacia is also missing for a ‘few weeks’. Thankfully, Ten Hag is of the mentality where you prepare for this situation. As they say, the show must go on…
Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:
“For some period, they will be absent. Luke will be [out] longer than Mason.” Ten Hag responded when asked directly about Shaw and Mount, per ManUtd.com.
He was then asked about Malacia:
“It will also take a few weeks before he will be back,”
“Definitely we have solutions in our squad to cope with that. We thought before the season about this scenario, what could happen. You hope to avoid this scenario, that’s also clear, but if it happens, you have to be ready for it. And we are ready to deal with it.”
The left-back spot has to be a genuine concern. Diogo Dalot can play out there if absolutely necessary, though he’s far better on the right and I do not see the sense in shifting him out of position – particularly when you have Alvaro Fernandez waiting in the wings.
The concern here is that these three injuries are all longer term, so United need to trust a left-back for at least a month. Fernandez has the chance to become the future in that position, so why not see what he’s made of?
I understand that it’s a lot of pressure but he looked good in pre-season and I’d expect to see him kick it up a notch as he looks to prove that he deserves that chance.
