Man United have been in touch with Chelsea over potentially signing Marc Cucurella on loan.
Manchester United managed to execute the come-from-behind victory at home to Nottingham Forest over the weekend. Although it wasn’t the most convincing victory, it was important. The game itself saw Diogo Dalot move to left-back due to injuries in that area.
You get the feeling that Luke Shaw’s injury issue is worse than first feared, as the club are now looking at signing someone in that area of the field…
If it was just a few weeks, I wouldn’t expect United to look to sign another left-back. However, according to Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella is one of the options.
It’s written that United have ‘made contact’ with the club over potentially signing the 25-year-old on loan. At this stage, no bid has been made, while talks are not yet concrete.
United are looking for a cheap enough left-back opportunity, with three candidates on the current list, including Cucurella.
The Spaniard looked superb for Brighton, though he’s yet to rediscover that form at Stamford Bridge after a big-money move.
Perhaps a change in scenery is what he needs to get his confidence back – and United could well benefit.
The verdict
Chelsea may not be too keen on letting Cucurella head to a fellow top four rival, which could hike up the price. It also tells us everything we need to know about Ten Hag’s current thoughts on Alvaro Fernandez. Blatantly, he feels the Spaniard isn’t yet ready for regular first-team football.
Cucurella would be a good signing to see us through to the January transfer window. By which point, both Shaw and Malacia should surely be back…
