Bayern Munich are looking at potentially signing Scott McTominay, with a swap loan deal also a possibility.
Manchester United Football Club have seen their summer transfer window dwindle down into nothingness. It’s fair to say since the Rasmus Hojlund signing, it has been a disappointing month. The problem? An inability to move players on.
Erik ten Hag is no doubt frustrated behind the scenes, with the club failing to generate transfer funds that he can reinvest into the squad. He’s now having to get creative…
A loan move for Marc Cucurella is being talked up as cover at the left-back position due to injury. Now another short-term move could be in the works.
The story comes from Christian Falk, who is usually bang on the money when it comes to rumours covering Bayern Munich.
Apparently, the European giant are interested in signing United midfielder, Scott McTominay, with a ‘swap loan deal’ an option. That move would see Ryan Gravenberch come the other way and that idea is currently being ‘discussed’.
Check out Christian Falk’s tweet here:
United have been linked with Gravenberch already this window, as Ten Hag already has a familiarity with the young midfielder, who previously played for Ajax.
There’s no doubt that United are after some extra mobility in that area of the field, while the 21-year-old is looking to move to a club that can give him more regular playing opportunities. The Reds will certainly present him with that chance.
However, I’m not sure losing McTominay is worth the trade-off. United need an extra body in midfield. They should be signing someone like Gravenberch while keeping hold of the Scotland international, purely for depth purposes after letting Fred go.
The verdict
I’d be surprised if this swap deal does happen. I’m still expecting United to pull a rabbit out of a hat this summer and make at least one or two more signings. Perhaps I have too much faith in this club that is struggling right now.
Will Gravenberch be the signing that’s made? Who knows…
