Man United have asked Brentford about the availability of Rico Henry.
Manchester United have a dilemma at left-back. The Old Trafford side, suddenly are dealing with injury in that area of the field. Tyrell Malacia picked up a problem in pre-season, before Luke Shaw went down with a more serious injury. It’s unclear when the Englishman will be back available.
The concern is raised due to the fact that United are now actively looking for a replacement signing, leading us all to believe it could be a long term problem. Several names have already been linked with filling the void, including Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.
Now, another new name has been thrown into the ring; Rico Henry.
It’s the Daily Mail who ran the story. They state that United ‘have enquired’ about the availability of the 26-year-old Premier League left-back.
Apparently, ‘initial checks’ have been made into Henry’s situation and potential availability, with the England U20 international impressing ever since moving to Brentford, from Walsall, in 2016.
According to the report, Henry is in contention for his first senior England call-up this week, though securing his signature during this summer may prove to be tough. It’s stated they may be more open to a sale next summer.
The verdict
Henry is under contract until 2026. He will not come cheap during this window. I honestly struggle to see how United, who are already scraping the bottom of the barrel for transfer funds, are suddenly going to find enough cash to make this move happen…
Henry is a cracking player and if this move is somehow made, I’d honestly give him a good chance at keeping his place in the United line-up upon Shaw’s return from injury. I just do not see a transfer taking place this month.
