Man United are looking to sign Marc Cucurella on a season-long loan.
Manchester United Football Club are struggling right now – both on and off the field.
The Red Devils need further additions, particularly after the injury suffered by Luke Shaw. I genuinely believe the problem must be at least semi-serious, with the club pushing hard to sign a new left-back before the transfer window slams shut.
Perhaps the name most linked is Marc Cucurella. The Spaniard has struggled since making the move to Chelsea, hence, the rumours make sense.
The latest on this saga comes from the Evening Standard. They state that United are ‘keen’ on signing the 25-year-old on a season-long loan.
Ten Hag ‘wants’ a new left-back after the Shaw injury, coupled with the fact that Tyrell Malacia is still out injured also.
As things stand, United are assessing a ‘variety of options’ in the left-back positon, with Cucurella among those possibilities.
The verdict
For me, this is the one that makes the most sense. Cucurella has a real point to prove after a pretty turgid time since moving to Chelsea.
That doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. Far from it, in fact. Cucurella is more than good enough to make a positive impact at the highest level.
A season-long loan is a risk-free move, giving United some additional depth in a real position of need. It’s one of those transfers that I can honestly see going super well, with possibility of a permanent deal in the future.
I just hope United have the funds in the bank to push this deal through. Ten Hag cannot operate with Diogo Dalot as the only option at left-back for multiple months. It’s just not possible.
