Dean Henderson is finally set to leave Man United on a permanent deal.
Manchester United have struggled to sell players over the last few weeks. No doubt to Erik ten Hag’s frustration.
Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek, Eric Bailly and Dean Henderson are among the many players who were expected to depart during this window. All remain, albeit United may finally be getting somewhere in regard to Henderson.
A permanent move to Nottingham Forest looked super likely following a successful loan spell. However, they chose to go in a different direction, leaving Crystal Palace with an opportunity to sign the Englishman.
Fabrizio Romano has provided a hugely positive update on that front this morning. According to his claim, the player is ‘expected’ to leave United today, completing a move to Palace after his medical was completed. The announcement should happen at some point over the course of the day.
The total deal is worth up to £20m, with United to receive a flat £15m transfer fee, with another £5m available in add-ons.
On top of that, Altay Bayindir, who has been heavily linked with a United move this summer, is set to sign and become Henderson’s replacement at Old Trafford.
It’s a real shame it didn’t work out for Henderson at United. He’s an excellent footballer who had the potential to replace David de Gea as the number one. However, injuries absolutely ruined any serious chance he had.
The fact that the club have somehow managed to get the better part of £20m for Henderson is an excellent piece of business, particularly when the replacement is only expected to cost a little over £5m.
That gives Ten Hag another £15m in the transfer kitty. Let’s hope that’s enough to bring in a left-back, midfielder or even a centre-half.
