Man United are looking to sign Sofyan Amrabat on loan this summer.
Well, Manchester United have certainly kept Sofyan Amrabat waiting around this summer. The Red Devils haven’t been as proactive as we’d have liked since the arrival of Rasmus Hojlund, with the man from Morocco talked up as a potential signing early on int he window.
All went quiet on that front as Erik ten Hag looked to generate some funds via player sales. However, that just hasn’t happened. Now, United are truly scraping the bottle of the barrel, by looking at loan moves.
First, Marc Cucurella may be brought in on a short-term deal to replace the injured Luke Shaw. Now, Amrabat…
It’s the usually reliable David Ornstein with the update. He says that United are ‘working on’ a deal to sign the midfielder on loan, rather than permanent, due to FFP.
The man from Morocco is the top target, while the player ‘wants’ an Old Trafford move. In terms of other options, Ryan Gravenberch remains on the list.
More than anything, I’m relieved for the player. It felt like United had led Amrabat astray, with the player getting his heart set on a move and even refusing to play for his current club, Fiorentina.
While a loan is better than nothing, it still highlights the glaring problems United are having right now. They’re struggling to raise funds to invest in the squad. Until they stop overpaying for mediocre players, that will not change.
Amrabat’s addition is a necessary one. United need extra help and mobility, in midfield. He’ll bring that in abundance and I genuinely believe Mason Mount may struggle to win his position back.
