Man United have made the move to sign goalkeeper Kie Plumley on a free transfer.
Manchester United’s deadline day was somewhat panic-filled, though four needed signings were made.
In the goalkeeper position, Altay Bayindir was brought in from Fenerbahce. The man from Turkey will play a back-up role.
Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, another shot-stopper has been added, with this boyhood Reds fan expected to occupy a back-up role also, but this time for the U21 team.
United have made the move to sign the 20-year-old, Kie Plumley, on a free transfer. The young man spent last season with Oxford United, though he wouldn’t make a first-team appearance for the League One side.
Plumley now joins the biggest club in the country, with the player no doubt in dreamland at this massive opportunity that has been presented to him.
Understandably, it’s going to be an uphill battle for Plumley to play meaningful minutes for the Red Devils, though I bet he was as surprised as anyone when he received the call!
At United, Plumley will no doubt develop and grow as a footballer. Although he’ll mostly be working with the U21 team, there’s nothing stopping him from moving up the ranks if he impresses.
The verdict
The realistic scenario is that Plumley will play a handful of games at the youth level, with the Englishman viewed as a security blanket for that age group in case of injury.
It’s just one of those unexciting but necessary signings, in case of injury disaster or individual player struggles at that level. Let’s hope Plumley learns a lot and enjoys his time at United over the course of the season.
Welcome, Kie!
