Casemiro wasn’t flavour of the month among the Brazilian media after their 1-0 win over Peru yesterday.
Manchester United Football Club have started this season slowly. There’s no getting away from the fact that the performances haven’t been of the required level.
I’d argue that the midfield area has been the biggest problem. It’s why Erik ten Hag was so desperate to bring in a new central player on deadline day, with Sofyan Amrabat eventually added to the squad.
Casemiro has often been left isolated. The man from Brazil has since been subject of English media claiming that he’s past his best, while Souness called him nothing more than a ‘steady Eddie’, which couldn’t be further from the truth.
Now, Brazilian media are the latest to criticise the United star, who apparently played his ‘worst performance’ for his national team. They claim he did ‘everything wrong’ during Brazil’s 1-0 victory against Peru last night.
This is what the media had to say on Casemiro’s performance here:
“The excellent midfielder Casemiro had his worst performance for the national team. He made everything wrong and gave the fans goosebumps.” Brazilian media outlet Terra, wrote.
I didn’t watch the game, though I genuinely do not care what happens at international level, especially when it’s negativity.
I’m a domestic football lover, while internationally I barely take interest unless it’s a massive fixture or major tournament.
Casemiro isn’t losing it, in my opinion. He just hasn’t been helped by his teammates to start this season. You saw the difference when he’s playing in a balanced midfield, like he did against Arsenal. The ex-Real Madrid man looked back to his best.
Perhaps he’s no longer capable of starting a match every three days and keeping up these performance levels, but this is just another reason why Amrabat’s addition, coupled with Kobbie Mainoo’s return, is massive.
