Harry Maguire will not feature for Man United vs Bayern Munich.
Manchester United begin their Champions League campaign this evening, with the competition coming back in full force. An away game against Bayern Munich is why you love to play in this competition. This is exactly what it’s all about.
The Red Devils are rightly underdogs in this encounter with Harry Kane and company, though you can never write this United side off. Despite the poor start and mounting injuries, this is still a squad jam-packed with genuine quality.
Sadly, the senior defenders seem to be dropping like flies. The latest in line to pick up a problem is Harry Maguire. Erik ten Hag addressed the concern in his pre-match press conference yesterday, claiming that the united player ‘had some complaints’ and he will not be involved against Munich this evening.
Check out what the gaffer had to say on the Harry Maguire injury here:
“[Harry] had some complaints and we have to see how bad it is. So he finished training but it was not good enough to travel.” Ten Hag told club media.
Suddenly, United have just five defenders travelling to Bavaria for this game – one of them is Jonny Evans… One more problem in that position and we’re in a real mess.
The good news is that this Maguire problem doesn’t sound like a long term issue. You get the impression that he was close to being ready to play against Bayern, with the gaffer unwilling to risk the former club captain.
Either way, you cannot help but be concerned with the fact that this team is picking up major injury problems almost every week it feels like. Be it bad luck, something going wrong in training or a lack of fitness remains to be seen…
Right now, I’m fearing the worst for this evening’s game…
