Kobbie Mainoo was set to feature in a behind-closed-doors friendly this week, though his comeback has been delayed.
Manchester United’s injury problems started way back in pre-season. First, Amad went down with an issue, then Kobbie Mainoo closely followed after making a bright start in the friendly matches.
We haven’t seen the talented midfielder since, though he appears to be on the comeback trail as he was pictured back in training not too long ago.
The Manchester Evening News have provided another update on the Stockport-born midfielder’s comeback. They state that Mainoo was originally pencilled in to play a behind-closed-doors game against Barnsley this week.
However, that injury return was ‘delayed’ by United coaches, who deemed it ‘too soon’ for him to feature after such a lengthy layoff. Honestly, you have to give Mainoo time and patience as it was a pretty severe injury issue and you don’t want to risk further damage.
Mainoo looked excellent in pre-season. I know it’s a different kettle of fish entirely in comparison to Premier League matches with points on the line, but all the signs were positive.
My concern here is that there is already too much pressure on Mainoo’s young shoulders. The fans are treating him like some kind of hero who is ging to fix all our midfield problems. While that may be true in future, he’s still just a kid and we need to remain patient, giving him all the time he needs to develop.
I’m pleased United aren’t rushing his comeback as again, you wouldn’t want to thrust him into the line-up too soon when he’s not fully ready to play at his maximum capacity.
