Man United are one of many teams interested in acquiring the services of Assan Ouédraogo.
The Manchester United first-team squad continues to be overhauled by Erik ten Hag, though I think even he’d admit that the process is taking longer than he’d have wanted. That part of the problem is through no fault of his own, with the club continuing to overpay for players who don’t necessarily deserve the massive wages they’re on.
It’s having a knock-on effect, meaning money is now tighter due to the fact that the squad isn’t being cleared out. As a result, the club had to settle for loan moves and cheaper options on transfer deadline day.
Another way to get around spending big is to move for younger players. Ironically, this is where United have tended to flourish over the years, so why they’ve tried to move away from that mantra I’m not so sure…
Anyway, the latest story comes from TEAMtalk. They reckon United are among the sides interested in 187-year-old teenage ‘sensation’, Assan Ouédraogo.
Chelsea and Bayern Munich are also keen, as United will face heavy competition in the race to acquire the player.
TEAMtalk state that the young player has already been billed the ‘German Paul Pogba’, as the Bundesliga continues to produce some of the best talents in world football.
Ouédraogo is well known within the academy system in Germany, having been capped at every youth level already. The attention has now crossed beyond German borders, with United and Chelsea now showing an interest.
The right-footed midfielder is a very technically gifted player, who thrives with the ball at feet both in terms of carrying possession and passing it when necessary.
In terms of Ouédraogo’s contract, he’s currently tied down until at least 2027. With that in mind, a fee of around £15m is expected to be the current starting point for discussions. However, that price could rapidly increase as the young midfielder’s stock continues to rise.
