There has been another update provided on Casemiro, who suffered an injury against Venezuela.
The story of Manchester United’s season has been injuries. Erik ten Hag’s side has been struggling for any sort of form as a result, while club ownership issues also swirl overhead.
Typically, just when things are starting to look up for United, the club takes another step back. During Brazil’s last game, Casemiro picked up an injury issue with the Brazil manager confirming the news. At the time, the severity wasn’t known.
Now, Globo Esporte have provided a further injury update on the key United star following his problem. The player is currently not in training and he will undergo a medical examination today to find out the extent.
It’s sad that Casemiro has twisted his ankle and it is badly swollen. He’d continue on despite the pain against Venezuela on Friday, though eventually substituted.
As things stand, I’d be highly surprised if he features in Brazil’s second game of the international window, meaning he could be released from duty early.
That said, if his ankle is swollen, it will take time for that swelling to go down and I’d imagine only then we’ll find out the true extent of the problem.
Although he has the best part of a week to recover for the Sheffield United game, I’d only be surprised if we see him start that clash. It’s probably not worth the risk for the veteran midfielder, who could benefit from the extra time off – particularly after his personal struggles to start this campaign.
Hopefully, the problem isn’t a long term issue, but hopefully, just an impact injury that he’ll be back from sooner rather than later.
