Fabrizio Romano has shared his latest information on Anthony Martial, with the Frenchman a possible January departure.
Manchester United’s squad is in a weird place right now. There are some good pieces at Erik ten Hag’s disposal, though there’s still work to do with the squad overall.
The Old Trafford side still have many fringe players on the edges of the first-team that continue to show inconsistencies. Sure, excellent players on their day, though performances fluctuate rapidly between both ends of the spectrum.
One player who epitomises that more than anyone is Anthony Martial. The Frenchman is super gifted, that cannot be denied. However, his displays have often flattered to deceive. When he’s happy and enjoying his football there aren’t many better. Most of the time, though, he ambles around the field like he hasn’t got a care in the world.
Now, reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update, claiming that the 27-year-old United star ‘could leave in January’ if an ‘important proposal’ is made.
Check out what Fabrizio Romano said on Anthony Martial in full here:
“There are also fresh rumours surrounding Anthony Martial’s future, and my understanding is that the situation remains same as July/August; with an important proposal, Martial could leave in January.” Romano told the Daily Briefing.
“Otherwise, Man United would be happy to keep him as part of the rotations. He was never actually close to leaving in the summer as Man Utd never received an important bid for him at that time.”
Failing a good offer coming in, United would be happy to keep the ex-AS Monaco man around, purely due to the sheer talent he has.
Martial’s situation is interesting. He’s been usurped as the first-choice striker by Rasmus Hojlund, meaning he’s having to settle for minutes off the bench as things stand.
I guess it’s about what the player himself wants. If he prefers to start games with regularity then he may have no choice but to leave in January. If he’s happy being drip-fed minutes, then Martial isn’t a bad back-up option to have.
In our opinion, Martial will probably leave next summer. He’s now at that stage in his career where he should be at the peak of his powers. The only way he’s going to display that is by playing game-in-game-out.
