Man United are actively trying to ship Anthony Martial out of the exit door.
Manchester United’s start to the season has been borderline disastrous. Erik ten Hag’s side have looked pretty poor in every game they’ve played, with some positive results masking what has been a tough watch.
The Red Devils have been on a two-week break due to international football, though they return this Saturday against Sheffield United – a game they simply have to win. One player who is chomping at the bits for minutes is Anthony Martial. However, he has fallen out-of-favour due to the signing of Rasmus Hojlund. There’s only so much longer the Frenchman will be happy playing second fiddle.
Now, talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has provided an update on Martial’s future and in their byline, it’s claimed United are ‘ready to cut their losses’ on the player. To further add to that, it’s claimed that United are ‘actively looking’ for ways to sell the 27-year-old who is now becoming used to sitting among the substitutes.
Due to Martial’s contract situation (his current deal expires at the end of this season), United would be willing to accept a minimal fee to allow the former AS Monaco man to depart the club. That’s typical of the way United are operating at the moment, after spending massive money to sign Martial as a teen.
So far, the only parties with registered interest are from the Saudi Pro League, with a summer move to that division being touted, but eventually falling through.
With Hojlund looking far sharper and hungrier than Martial, it was always likely that United’s number nine would want to depart. He’s at that stage in his career where regular playing time is a must. The Old Trafford club simply cannot guarantee him that right now.
