Marc Guehi has been confirmed as a Man United transfer target following the Reds’ defensive injury issues.
Manchester United have been hit with some serious injury issues all over the field, though recently, the defence has been absolutely decimated. The Old Trafford side are currently without their first choice back four, which is obviously far from ideal.
Erik ten Hag will know that sometimes, injuries are more than just bad luck. Take Raphael Varane for example, he’s always going to pick up small problems that will disrupt his season.
As a result, don’t be surprised to see the gaffer make a move to bring in a new central defender – possibly as early as January.
Football Insider believe Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi is on the list of potential options. According to their report, the 23-year-old defender ‘is a target’ for United. Though they’ll face competition from other potential buyers.
It’s stated that the Reds are ‘very much in the market’ for a new centre-back ahead of the new year, with the club keen to add to their pool of options after the long-term Lisandro Martinez blow coupled with Varane’s consistent lack of availability.
Guehi has had an excellent couple of years with Crystal Palace, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Newcastle all keeping an eye on his progress.
The defender has broken into the England side, while his current Palace contract runs until 2026 – so he will not come cheaply.
I would like to see this deal happen, though I’d assume it’d be next summer, rather than January. I just do not see Palace parting with one of their prized assets in the mid-season window. United are also pretty skint at present…
