Man United have been provided a mixed injury update on a pair of two first-team regulars.
Manchester United Football Club have been dealing with many injuries to start this season. Erik ten Hag isn’t wanting to use it as an excuse, but it does play a factor.
As of last week, United were without their four first-choice defenders through injury. There has been some good news on Raphael Varane, who should be fit to take on Sheffield United this weekend.
However, the full-back area is still pretty decimated. Luke Shaw hasn’t been seen since the Tottenham Hotspur game, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another who has picked up a problem.
Ahead of the Sheffield United game this weekend, Ten Hag has provided a mixed injury update on a pair of full-backs. Shaw is not expected back during ‘this block’ of games, meaning we will not see him before the November international break.
There is some better news on Wan-Bissaka, who isn’t ‘too far away’ from returning. The Englishman is the first choice right-back when fit, so having him available would be huge.

“Of course, they are closer [to a comeback],” Ten Hag replied, when asked about the pair, per ManUtd.com. “But so, for instance, Luke Shaw, I don’t expect him back in this block of games.
“For instance, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, I don’t think he’s too far away from returning into team training and so back in the team.”
It’s gutting to lose Shaw for so long, but I assume this was expected, hence the move for Sergio Reguilon on transfer deadline day. The Spaniard has looked pretty solid during his handful of appearances so far, though even he’s had treatment table woes. Hopefully, the Spurs loanee can continue to do a steady job as we await the return of the Englishman.
I think it’s easy to forget just how important full-backs are to this system. On both sides of the ball. We’ve struggled defensively down the wings without our first-choice wide defenders and I genuinely don’t think it’s a coincidence.
