The weekend game was more of the same. After a decent ten minutes, United were blown away by their opponents. We can cry about the blatantly-wrong penalty call, but that would not have changed the final result. Either way, United were losing that game.
After the match, several players have come under fire. It makes sense, given the fact that there wasn’t one player out there who played up to standard. For Peter Schmeichel, it was Sofyan Amrabat who didn’t impress.
The United hero was critical of the player’s performance in the aftermath, claiming that he was ‘so far off the pace’ that City could basically do whatever they wanted in midfield.

“I mean, he makes a change at half time, there’s a reason for that because it wasn’t working in midfield,” Schmeichel told Premier League Productions, per the Manchester Evening News. “Amrabat was so far off the pace Man City basically could do whatever they wanted.
“And the chances, yes, we had chances but they all came from Manchester City mistakes, it wasn’t like we were creating anything.”
Amrabat’s game was summed up by his half-time subbing. He picked up a daft booking for squaring up to Phil Foden after what was a bad tackle on the ex-Fiorentina man. However, it was unnecessary and it probably sealed Ten Hag’s decision to take him off at the interval.
I have to be honest, I was expecting big things from Amrabat. He was one of the standout players at the World Cup and it felt like the perfect fit in regard to what United needed from a midfielder. Sadly, it hasn’t quite worked out so far.
Whether that’s Amrabat’s fault is another matter entirely. This whole United side is in an absolute mess right now and it must not have been easy for him to join in a dressing room so low on morale and confidence.
The talent is clearly there. we’ve seen it at the highest level. Maybe it’s the fact he hasn’t consistently been starting games, and when he does play, he’s subbed off. It must be hard to get into a rhythm, particularly when you’re used to starting week-in-week out at your previous club.
I’m not willing to give up on Amrabat just yet. I still think he’ll come good. We just have to allow him to get into a flow.
