Man United have eyes on AC Milan forward, Rafael Leao.
With the way results are going right now, Manchester United could look to the transfer window to change their fortunes. January is notoriously a tough time to buy players, though it’s probably going to be even more difficult than usual for the Old Trafford side. To put it bluntly, the club is skint.
You’d imagine the Reds are in a sell before they can buy scenario. You could look to move on Jadon Sancho, purely due to the fact he’s had a major fallout with the gaffer. Then, he’d have to be replaced.
That’s where Rafael Leao comes in.
It’s Calciomercato with the claim, who, a few days ago, linked United as one of the interested parties.
According to their report, United are monitoring the 24-year-old forward, with the January window now in sight.
The problem? Manchester City are also keen on the man from Portugal, who recently had a fallout with his current manager, Stefano Pioli. The pair were spotted having an argument after Leao was subbed off during the 2-2 draw with Napoli.
United could look to take advantage of Leao and AC Milan’s situation, though I’d imagine he would still cost an awful lot of money to prise away from the Serie A club. That’s before you even consider beating out City for his signature. In the current predicament, it does feel like a long shot.
The verdict
Leao would be an insane piece of business. The man from Portugal would offer some genuine quality and consistency in the final third – although it may be to Marcus Rashford’s detriment.
Beating out competition from our fierce rivals could prove to be the stumbling block in any potential move for Leao, while generating the funds to sign a player of his calibre, particularly in the January transfer window, may also be tough.
