Marcus Rashford was an unexpected absence as Man United beat Fulham yesterday. Now we know why.
Manchester United left it typically-late to secure all three points against Fulham last night, with Bruno Fernandes coming up with a true captain’s goal for the Old Trafford club.
The performance wasn’t good enough yet again, though the Reds can feel hard done by, as another blatantly bad VAR call went against Erik ten Hag’s side.
To their credit, they stuck together and managed to win, despite being without arguably their best attacker; Marcus Rashford.
Shortly before team news was announced, news filtered through suggesting that Rashy was going to have a late fitness test after picking up a problem on Friday. Before the game, the gaffer confirmed that the United star was ‘not fit’ to play, despite travelling. Rashy is dealing with a leg issue.
Check out what the gaffer had to say on the Marcus Rashford injury here:
“He was travelling with us but he didn’t make it. He was tested this morning but [his leg] wasn’t good enough. He’s not fit.” Ten Hag said live on TNT Sports, per ManUtd.com.
First and foremost, the cynic in me was questioning whether it had anything to do with Rashford going out for his birthday after a derby day hammering last weekend. Genuinely, that could still be the case…
However, Ten Hag is an upfront manager so we have to take what he says at face value. If he says Rashy is dealing with a leg injury, then I have no reason to doubt that.
With games now coming thick and fast, I worry about when Rashy will be back available for selection. United take on Copenhagen in a must-win Champions League game on Wednesday night, you’d hope he’d be good enough to play some part in that – purely for his European experience and big-game performance ability.
Failing that, the Reds take on Luton in another must-win Premier League game next weekend. At the latest, I’d like to think he’ll be available to take part there.
