Erik ten Hag was full of praise for Harry Maguire, after his top display vs Fulham.
Manchester United had to fight to earn all three points against Fulham yesterday lunchtime. Credit where it’s due, the whole team scratched and clawed to ensure a late victory was secure.
The game itself wasn’t the prettiest. Nor did United look like a team who were brimming with confidence. Perhaps the win will help out in that regard. Only time will tell.
One thing I am absolutely certain of is the fact that United would not have won that game without Harry Maguire. The Englishman was the undoubted Man of the Match during what was a truly colossal performance.
The ex-Leicester City man deserves extra credit after suffering a nasty head collision early. Instead of subbing himself off, he fought through the clear pain and struggle he was dealing with to ensure he came out on the winning side.
After the encounter, the United star earned high praise from his manager, Ten Hag, after a ‘massive game’. It’s clear the Dutchman was absolutely buzzing with the performance put in by the United #5.
Check out what Ten Hag had to say on Maguire in full here:
“He was playing a massive, massive game. A very good performance,” Ten Hag told the media, including ManUtd.com.
“He showed leadership and in and out of possession he was very good, so I’m very pleased with that performance from Harry.”
I think that we’re always quick to lay the blame at Maguire’s door, so we have to be consistent. He was by far and away the best player on that field yesterday in many different aspects.
Not only was he winning headers and tackles galore, but his passing was always progressive and he was not afraid to bark orders at his teammates, ensuring they were in the correct positions.
Maguire has been in much better form over the last few weeks and it really is nice to see the gaffer keep faith with the Englishman, rather than dropping him from the side.
Long may it continue as we’ve all forgotten what an excellent player Maguire is when he’s playing regularly and, most importantly, playing with confidence.
