Man United have eyes on Brazil forward Gabriel Barbosa, as part of a part-exchange January deal.
Manchester United Football Club have been pretty turgid this season, with the Reds continuing to struggle to score goals. They’ve had little-to-no production from their wide players, namely, Marcus Rashford. Rasmus Hojlund is also yet to score a league goal despite some positive overall performances.
Erik ten Hag’s side put in a defiant display over the weekend, beating Fulham 1-0 in a close encounter. However, it wasn’t a convincing performance and more signings are needed – particularly in an attacking sense.
Over the last 24 hours, The Mirror have thrown a new name into the mix; Gabriel Barbosa. The man from Brazil has often been linked with a move away from his homeland and here we are again.
According to their report, United have eyes on the 27-year-old forward as a potentially January transfer, as they ‘want’ the Flamengo striker as part of a part-exchange deal.
United are ‘willing to offer’ Antony in a loan deal heading the other way, which does make sense, given the Brazilian’s poor displays to start this campaign.
Barbosa has scored eighteen goals across all competitions this season, with the striker available in a cut-price deal. His contract expires in 2024 and around £20m could get the deal done. Flamengo would be keen on taking Antony on a short-term deal, which could help offset the costs for a Reds side who aren’t blessed with wads of cash at this present time.
I’m not going to sit here and tell you Barbosa is going to be the best thing since sliced bread. However, United need to try do something in the final third as the lack of goals is truly alarming.
