Goodison Park isn’t always an easy ground to go to, let alone with the fans enraged over a 10 point deduction that has just been issued by the Premier League for breaching FFP. Manchester United haven’t shown the greatest fighting mentality this season so there were plenty of reds who were nervous ahead of this afternoon’s game against Everton.
However, Alejandro Garnacho did his bit to silence the crowd when scoring likely the goal of the season after three minutes.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game Garnacho reflected on the goal.
I can’t believe it to be honest. I just did [it] and I didn’t see how I scored, I just listened around. I said: ‘Oh my god’, and for me, of course, it was one of the best goals I have ever scored. I am very happy.
I say it is very much like Rooney’s goal, I don’t know which one is better. Both are incredible goals.
United are now six points off first and have the best form of any team in the league over the last six games. Garnacho reflected on the importance of the win.
It was a very important win and we need this to be in the top six. We need this win, three goals and a clean sheets. It is very important. It is a very important win and we must be ready in the Champions League against Galatasaray. We must win. Then at the weekend, we need another win to be in and around the top four.
Garnacho was named Man of the Match, despite Kobbie Mainoo putting in a great performance on his debut, but captain Bruno Fernandes was quick to bring the player back down to earth when summing up the Argentinean’s performance on Sky Sports.
So-so! I give him a good nod just for the goal, but that’s because he knows I have big expectations for him.
He’s a great player. Ah. He’s not a great player yet, but he has a great future ahead. We expect a lot from him, he knows that, I’ll always be behind him, asking for more. Honestly, amazing goal.
