Antony wasn’t available as Man United beat Everton 3-0. Now we know why…
Manchester United played their most complete game of the domestic season away at Goodison Park yesterday. No doubt Erik ten Hag would have been mightily pleased. Suddenly, the Reds are just six points off top spot.
The Old Trafford club are now top of the form guide after grinding out wins over recent weeks. The dressing room deserves credit for showing real character and backbone. No doubt Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho stole the show, highlighting why I still firmly believe putting genuine trust in youth is the best way forward.
Yesterday’s game was also a similar story on the injury front for United. Antony was inexplicably absent from the matchday squad. Now we know why…
The MEN confirmed further injury woes for United, stating that the star missed the Everton game with a knock and he was not deemed match fit as a result.
The good news is that it doesn’t seem like a long term injury issue for the winger from Brazil, who absolutely needs a good game or two in order to turn his individual confidence levels around.
Antony’s loss was another’s gain. First and foremost, Facundo Pellistri came off the bench and looked pretty sharp once again, while Joe Hugill was also included in the match-day squad. It was nice to see the young forward on the bench. He looked super sharp in pre-season.
As for Antony, I’d be surprised if he’s ready to go against Galatasaray in midweek. The quick turnaround time coupled with the journey to Turkey does make it a long shot. That could cause a problem for Ten Hag, who is already without Marcus Rashford through suspension.
