Alejandro Garnacho was the only Man United star named in the latest BBC Team of the Week after the win vs Everton.
Manchester United undoubtedly played their best game of the season away at Everton yesterday. The Red Devils were confident and playing like a team. It’s something we haven’t seen all that often in the 2023/24 season. Suddenly, Erik ten Hag’s side are just six points off top spot. It’s crazy, really…
It’s at this stage in the season where the cream really does rise to the top. Let’s hope United can continue this excellent form as we approach the hectic winter schedule.
I’ve always been a big believer in United abandoning the strategy of spending big money on ready-made players. Rather, the club should do what they’re good at – trust in youth and find those hidden gems. Yesterday was another perfect example of that.
Kobbie Mainoo was truly sublime in midfield on his first start, while Alejandro Garnacho scored a goal that could well be the Puskas winner when that award is handed out.
As a result, the latter forced his way into Garth Crooks’ latest BBC Team of the Week. The pundit pointed to Garnacho’s wonder goal as the factor that settled United into the game nicely. It’s hard to disagree, though it was a true thing of beauty from the young man who’ll probably never score a better goal throughout his career.

This latest team is just stacked with quality and it’s genuinely nice to see a United player in there. This has been a rare sight so far this season, though it does feel like yesterday’s 3-0 win has potential to really change the trajectory of this season for Ten Hag’s men.
It was a confidence-boosting result and performance. In spite of injuries still decimating the squad, there is still some excellent footballers available for selection, who, on their day, are among the best in the business.
I still feel a little salty about Mainoo’s exclusion from this side. He’s a teenager who absolutely bossed it on full debut. The calmness with which he played. The passing quality. The vision. It was an elite display who could genuinely go on to be one of the best midfielders in the game.
Congratulations, Alejandro!
