Man United have named a 22-man squad for a massive Champions League game vs Galatasaray.
Manchester United find themselves in a must win scenario away at Galatasaray. Lose and the best they can hope for is a spot in the Europa League after the turn of the year.
The pressure is no doubt on Erik ten Hag. The lads have been playing better over the last couple of matches, though we need to see a bigger sample size. This feels like the ideal opportunity to keep the positive momentum flowing.
Beating out Galatasaray will not be easy. We saw that in the home leg. They’re a side who are not afraid to take chances, so it will require genuine bravery from the lads in United colours.
Anyway, the squad news is now in, with the club confirming a 22-man party will travel to Turkey for the clash, including a couple of players who will return from injury; Antony and Rasmus Hojlund. Both were spotted back in training earlier today.
Their respective returns are timely due to the fact that Marcus Rashford is banned here. It’s also nice to see youngsters like Dan Gore, Kobbie Mainoo and Joe Hugill in amongst the group. They will be given their first taste of that insane Turkish atmosphere.
I still worry about the current lack of depth in midfield, with that area pretty much picking itself right now, at least until the likes of Mason Mount, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen can return.
The club is also looking somewhat thin on the ground in the final third here. Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial will both be full of confidence, while Hojlund will be ready and raring to go. I have little faith in the other options at this point in time, though.
Check out the squad in full here:
Goalkeepers: Altay Bayindir, Tom Heaton, Andre Onana.
Defenders: Diogo Dalot, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Sergio Reguilon, Luke Shaw, Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Midfielders: Sofyan Amrabat, Bruno Fernandes, Dan Gore, Hannibal, Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay.
Forwards: Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, Joe Hugill, Anthony Martial, Facundo Pellistri.
