Manchester United suffered a disastrous draw against Galatasaray on Wednesday night, despite going 2-0, then 3-1 ahead. For the third away game in the group stage, United scored three goals, but only came away with a point, after losing the two previous away games.
Speaking to MUTV after the game, Scott McTominay was frustrated we didn’t score more goals, after having 17 shots.
We’re so disappointed not to come away with more goals than three to be honest, and if you’d said that to us before the evening started, we’d have been delighted with that. Hopefully [we’d also] get another clean sheet. But, in football, there are mistakes and different things that can happen in the game, and it’s partly our fault at the other end of the pitch for not killing the game as well. I feel like we really did [play well]. We had control and were playing some good stuff but it’s football and it can happen.
Despite his improving performances in the Premier League, it was another horror show for Andre Onana in goal in the Champions League, but McTominay refused to single him out for criticism and looks to bounce back at the weekend against Newcastle.
There are no individuals in this team. We all want to be a collective and push each other forwards together. There’s no intimidation in football. You have just got to go there [to away stadiums like Newcastle United on Saturday], take it on its head and go for it, and that’s the way this team wants to operate. We want to go and fight every challenge head on and that’s it. There’s no ducking and diving out of situations, we want to go and push ourselves and test ourselves against some really good teams.
