Mason Mount is back out training, though he may not be back available just yet…
Manchester United Football Club have been dealing with some major injury issues this season. The Red Devils have been coping without some major players in their system, largely through no fault of their own.
The Old Trafford side are starting to come through that patch, slowly but surely. Today, the gaffer confirmed that one Man United player, in the form of Mason Mount, was welcomed back to training following injury. However, the gaffer ‘can’t say’ when he will be ready for selection again. Obviously, it will take the Englishman time to build up the fitness levels until he’s in a position to start playing again.
Check out what Erik ten Hag had to say in full here:
“Mason Mount is, today, returning on the [training] pitch, but I don’t know how long it will take until he returns [to play]. I can’t say in this moment.” Ten Hag told media, including ManUtd.com.
Mount’s start to the campaign has been pretty slow. He’d play a couple of matches, then pick up a six week injury, before returning and the same scenario would unfold again. He has looked bright in moments, but the ex-Chelsea man is yet to be given consistent starts to prove his worth.
With the current injury crisis decimating the midfield area, Mount is missing out on a good opportunity to prove his worth. Look at Kobbie Mainoo for example. He is taking that chance and not looking back. That could have been Mount.
For what it’s worth, I still think Mount will come good at Old Trafford. All he needs is an injury-free period coupled with a decent run in the side. Perhaps this weekend’s game against Newcastle United comes a little too soon. Chelsea visit Old Trafford next midweek. That could be more likely, while Mount would also be given the opportunity to prove to that club that he should not have been sold.
