Raphael Varane has no plans to leave Man United in the January transfer window.
Manchester United are certainly trending in a different direction at this point in time. Erik ten Hag has not shied away from dropping big personalities from the squad – even with pressure growing on the Dutch manager.
One of the bold decisions made recently was dropping Raphael Varane in favour of Jonny Evans. Ten Hag stated it was due to the fact that Harry Maguire was in good form, while he prefers to play with one right-footer and one left-footer at the heart of defence.
No doubt the ex-Real Madrid man felt hurt by the decision, particularly after all that he’s done in his career. Rumours stated he could well be looking for an exit in the mid-season transfer window.
However, the Manchester Evening News doesn’t believe that’s the case. They state that the United star ‘wants to stay’ at the club beyond the January transfer window despite falling down the pecking order.
Varane has only started once in the last eleven matches, though the man from France has shown ‘no desire’ to leave the club in January. His stance would only change if the club deem him as a player who is no longer wanted at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag has insisted there are no issues with Varane, rather it’s solely down to the fact that he has other players in better form right now. A dreadful cameo against Galatasaray would certainly back that up…
It’s a tricky situation. Varane’s consistent injuries make it hard for the manager to trust the player, particularly as he can barely play more than one game at a week at this stage in his career.
