Man United could be given the opportunity to sign Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund.
Manchester United’s attack has definitely looked blunt for large stretches of the season. Erik ten Hag has to front some of the blame for that, though some decisions have been taken out of his hands.
Anthony Martial is unsellable. Jadon Sancho unhappy. Mason Greenwood no longer here. Antony underperforming. Perhaps further funds should be allocated in the final third of the pitch, as Ten Hag looks to get this side scoring goals with more regularity.
Football Transfers now thrown Donyell Malen’s name into the mix as a possible transfer option.
They state that United will be ‘offered the chance’ to sign the 24-year-old attacker – if the aforementioned Sancho leaves the club.
The Borussia Dortmund winger has recently signed for the SEG agency, the firm which oversaw Ten Hag’s switch to United, while also having other clients, including Sofyan Amrabat and Rasmus Hojlund, on their books.
Football Transfers state that Dortmund could be ‘open’ to offers for Malen ahead of the January transfer window, while they hold ‘tentative’ interest in signing Sancho themselves.
First and foremost, it’s about moving Sancho on. The club cannot have that toxicity within their dressing room and the sooner they clear out players who are unhappy under the current regime, the better it will be for all involved. Only then can they focus on trying to sign Malen.
There’s no doubt that attacking changes are required sooner rather than later. I just worry that a lack of funds, coupled with FFP stipulations, could make it difficult for the club to sign players of the desired quality in the mid-season window.
