Man United have eyes on a pair of Lille defenders ahead of the January transfer window.
Defensively, Manchester United have not looked like the same side this season. Erik ten Hag has benched Raphael Varane after some poor performances, while Lisandro Martinez’s injury absence is heartfelt.
Goals are being leaked with real consistency, both domestically and in Europe. The goalkeeper has to own some of the fault, though the defenders just do not look as solid as they did a season ago.
It makes sense, then, to see the Red Devils linked with a possible transfer move to bring in some new defensive players. The latest story comes from TEAMtalk. They credit United with an interest in a pair of Ligue 1 defenders ahead of the January transfer window.
The Red Devils are said to be keeping an eye on both Lenry Yoro and Tiago Santos, though United would face heavy competition, with Liverpool, Chelsea Tottenham and West Ham also keen.
Yoro, a teenage centre-half, has emerged as a regular starter for Lille this season, impressing and showing genuine maturity despite still being so young in football terms.
Santos, also a Lille player, is a right-back by trade. He’s 21 and is capped for Portugal U21s, helping Lille showcase themselves as a side who can go toe-to-toe with anyone in Ligue 1.
It’s stated that Premier League clubs are showing ‘genuine interest’ in the Lille pair, as the French club continue to impress with their entertaining style of play.
Yoro is believed to be viewed ‘slightly more favourably’ than Santos, though both players have received ‘glowing reports’ from Premier League scouts. In terms of positional need, I’d assume United are considerably more desperate to sign a centre-back rather than a right-back at this point in time.
As of right now, the interest feels a little vague, so these are not moves I’d be expecting United to make imminently. Let’s see if other sources back these rumours up first.
Do you think either Yoro or Santos would be good signings for Man United? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
