Erik ten Hag highlighted Sofyan Amrabat as one of Man United’s better performers during the 2-1 win vs Chelsea.
Manchester United were pretty good against Chelsea yesterday. I have to admit, it feels refreshing to sit here and praise the lads the morning after a game. There has been far too man lacklustre performance of late, but not yesterday.
Erik ten Hag’s side played for their manager. They worked hard for the badge on their chest and in turn, the fans responded with rapturous noise and applause. All we ask for is that those players give it their all. They did just that.
Ten Hag made some changes to the team. Dropping Marcus Rashford was a bold but correct call, while Sofyan Amrabat came in for Kobbie Mainoo – presumably to keep the latter fresh as he’s only just returned from injury.
Amrabat has been pretty mediocre so far. He constantly looks a yard off the pace, while he seems to excel at giving the ball away. I’m pleased to report last night was an entirely different story for the Fiorentina loanee.
He looked calm in that holding midfield role. Picking the right passes, winning the ball back, working hard and keeping it simple It was an excellent outing from the man who arrived at Old Trafford with so much promise.
After the game, Ten Hag heaped the praise on the United star who he now claims is ‘settling in’ and ‘progressing’ since the summer move to Old Trafford. Let’s hope this form can now continue.

“I think Sofyan is settling in. He is progressing and you see he is getting more comfortable. Already last week, against Galatasaray, he was playing well. Tonight, he played well also.” Ten Hag said on the Moroccan’s performance, per ManUtd.com.
This has to be just the start for Amrabat. It was a real display of quality from the midfield maestro, who is now starting to show what he can offer to this United midfield which has underperformed all season long (so far anyway).
From a United standpoint, you now have to keep the faith in Amrabat and keep playing him, in order to build up both his fitness and confidence levels. It likely means a decrease in Kobbie Mainoo’s minutes, at least in the short term, as you can hardly drop Scott McTominay at this point either. However, you have no choice but to stick with Amrabat right now.
I’m just delighted that he is starting to showcase his ability. I had become sceptical about whether this was the right signing over the summer, but it’s blatantly clear he has what it takes to do the job that’s expected of him at the heart of our side.
