Man United are looking to move on from both Raphael Varane and Casemiro this summer, with transfers away already being talked about.
It would make sense for INEOS’ to make clearing the decks their first order of business. Let’s be honest, this Manchester United dressing room is filled with plenty of dead-wood and overpaid players.
The Glazers’ willingness to splash the cash somewhat recklessly is now coming back to haunt United. They have very little room for manoeuvre as we gear up towards a huge summer transfer window. Thus, selling players first feels like the ideal starting point.
According to the latest from GiveMeSport, United have a pair of key players whose heads are on the chopping block.
Apparently, the star United duo of Casemiro and Raphael Varane are ‘unlikely’ to be at the club next season, with their potential moves away already being discussed behind the scenes.
The Saudi Pro League is said to be a possible destination for both, but ‘certainly’ the Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is said to have already told Erik ten Hag that signing older, overpaid players will now be a thing of the past, with INEOS looking to wipe the slate clean in that regard.
Varane and Casemiro fetch in a combined £700,000-a-week wages right now. It’s no surprise to learn that the club want to move away from both these guys, in order to free up funds that can be re-invested into the squad, perhaps more wisely.
Casemiro was a pivotal player for Ten Hag’s United last term, though it’s fair to say his influence has certainly diminished this season. Whether it’s due to the fact he’s now another year older, or perhaps he’s been picking up small injuries, the Brazilian just doesn’t look like the same player.
Varane’s case is intriguing. Although a few years younger than Case, his injury issues have followed him throughout his whole career. Reliability is availability. The Frenchman has had to come off the field numerous times due to problems, leaving United down a sub and also down a key starter.
This does feel like Sir Jim Ratcliffe trying to stamp his influence on the club from day one – and I totally understand the decision and reasoning behind letting both of these guys go.
