The Everton takeover is causing uncertainty at Goodison Park which is causing delays in transfer and contract talks.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the situation at Everton is similar to issues at Man United caused by Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s takeover.
Despite agreeing a takeover deal with chairman Farhad Moshiri in September, 777 Partners are still awaiting approval from the Premier League.
As revealed by Football Insider in November, Everton pulled the plug on contract talks with Dominic Calvert-Lewin after their 10-point deduction.
The Toffees also have a chance to strengthen their squad in the January transfer window, but any business will be made more difficult by the ongoing takeover process.
Maguire believes a resolution to the Everton takeover saga is ‘essential’ to the club’s transfer and contract talks advancing.
“Whenever you are in any negotiation position, certainty is a benefit,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.
“What we have with Everton at present is a lot of uncertainty.
“Everton would like to secure their best players on long-term deals, but they could end up with a situation similar to Man United where new prospective owners may have their own ideas around management and players.
“That then results in delays and decisions being pushed back but football is an industry with rapid turnover.
“So a resolution of Everton’s ownership issues is necessary and absolutely essential for the club to move forward with transfer and contract plans.
“The fans and the players have rallied behind Sean Dyche following their points deduction and things are looking up on the pitch but there’s no room for complacency and they’d like to get the best players in the best positions.“
