Should Everton beat Crystal Palace in their FA Cup Third Round replay at Goodison Park on Wednesday January 17th, then they will take on the winners of Luton Town against Botlon Wanderers who fought to a scoreless draw yesterday. The Toffees also drew 0-0 at Palace, with the controversial sending off of Dominic Calvert-Lewin capturing all the headlines.
The Blues’ potential game at Goodison Park will be played on the weekend of Saturday 27th January, with television considerations determining the kickoff time and day. The Blues are on their mini-winter break the weekend before that, while they then travel to Fulham on Tuesday January 30th in a midweek league clash. Following that they host Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday February 3rd, which could then mean they have played five games in three weeks including the break.
Everton have already played (and lost) against Luton Town at home this season, a frustrating game that the newly-promoted side won 2-1. The last time the Blues played the Hatters in the FA Cup was a quarterfinal in 1986 with the first leg at Kenilworth Stadium ending 2-2, and then the Blues prevailing 1-0 in the replay on Merseyside.
As for the Trotters, the Blues haven’t played them since they were relegated in the 2012-13 season. That campaign the two sides faced each other three times as they also met at this very stage of this competition too, and in all three clashes the away side won.
The lowest-ranked side left in the competition are National League South side sixth-tier Maidstone United, and the only other non-league side in the hat are Eastleigh, who have a replay against League Two Newport on Saturday. There is one more League Two side, the newly famous Wrexham AFC.
The full draw threw up a number of interesting clashes, including Tottenham hosting defending champions Manchester City.
