It was a quiet January all round, but the flow of talent from South America to Europe look set to resume in the summer.
Chelsea bought a lot of raw promise last summer, but they’re not done yet it seems .The next prospect tempting top European sides is the interestingly named Thalys, a Brazilian 18 year old who Caughtoffside report Manchester United and the Blues are both keen on.
The attacker will apparently command a fee of €35-40m, although that seems like a hopeful asking price from his club Palmeiras. If he keeps developing and keeps scoring he could easily end up fetching that much, but he doesn’t yet have the pedigree to command those kind of sums.
It’s no secret that we’re desperate for a centre forward, but given the problems we’ve had this season, it feels unlikely we go for more youth and not a more experienced option to lead the line.
