Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp has labelled Chelsea star Levi Colwill an “exceptional passer.”
Colwill, 20, came through the ranks at Chelsea and has established himself as an important player under Mauricio Pochettino this season.
The England international has impressed this season even though he has spent large parts of it playing out of position at left back because of injuries to Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella.
The former Brighton loanee returned to the heart of Chelsea’s defence in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City and showed why he is so highly thought of with a brilliant performance alongside Axel Disasi with many fans keen to see more of the pair together.
Redknapp praised Chelsea’s defensive performance at The Etihad and highlighted Colwill’s ability to play the ball out from the back.
Redknapp told Sky Sports Premier League: “To go to Manchester City, go to the Etihad you have to defend well if you’re going to get any points whatsoever, and I picked out two of the defenders in this match Axel Disasi and Levi Colwill. Both very impressive.”
“Levi Cowill seems to have found some real form at the moment. You can see with the passing accuracy, exceptional from a defender, playing it into midfield.”
“But the one thing when I talk about Disasi that really sticks out is the clearances, 16. That’s the second most in the Premier League this season, and I thought he was certainly the man of the match. He was excellent, huge team performance and a massive improvement from Chelsea.”
Colwill signed a new six year contract in the summer with an option for a further year and has made 29 appearances in all competitions scoring one goal and providing one assist.
