Chelsea’s endless process of renewing their background staff has continued, with Matt Hughes of the Daily Mail reporting exclusively that our latest appointment has been poached from the PFA.
Jim Hicks has resigned from that organisation and will take up a newly created position at Chelsea – the “head of coach development,” a sort of coach for coaches.
It’s the kind of thing some dinosaurs may scoff at, but it makes perfect sense for a big organisation like Chelsea which has dozens of people in coaching or coaching related roles at the club. Many of them have been vital to the success of the academy in particular, and it’s important to keep fresh blood coming in as we lose people like Joe Edwards and Jody Morris to managerial roles.
Hicks is a former player who played for Fulham among other teams., and he’s also coached before. He’s a well known and respected figure in the game, and should be a good appointment.
