Chelsea defender Malo Gusto has said that one player in particular at Chelsea is helping him a lot right now.
Gusto has featured regularly this season, perhaps more than he expected after joining the Stamford Bridge outfit last summer from French club Lyon.
The 20 year old told The Athletic that he has been regularly speaking with club captain Reece James.
James has suffered another injury ravaged season and is currently recovering from a hamstring injury suffered against Everton in December last year.
The former Lyon man has proven he is more than a capable replacement for the England international with some really impressive performances and praised James for his impact on him.
He said: “Reece is a big player. One of the best players in this position. It’s not good for the team that he is out injured as Reece is the captain and it’s not good for everyone in the club. But me, I have to be ready and take every chance.”
“We talk a lot. I try to help him, he tries to help me as well. It’s a good competition between him and me. We are not similar as players, but when we are on the pitch we try to help the team, keeping a good mentality, to score and to assist. That’s what we have to do.”
Gusto will almost certainly be one of the first names on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet for the Carabao Cup final on Sunday in what will be one of the biggest games of his fledgling career.
The Frenchman has made 24 appearances in all competitions and has provided six assists so far this season.
