Most Chelsea players will admit that they will probably play anywhere on the pitch if it means they are actually playing rather than sitting the bench.
But really, if we want to see the absolute best of individual players in a Chelsea shirt then it’s so important that we must do all we can to get these players playing in their best positions in order for them to really thrive.
EXCLUSIVE! What Chelsea’s new recruitment expert will actually be doing at the club and the players he has already scouted (one is on Chelsea’s radar for the summer already).
And the Levi Colwill example is the prime one for this point. Colwill can play as a left back, but he is much better playing as a centre back, and that has been very evident in recent games.
Colwill has now admitted that he is a centre back and that is the position he feels most at home playing at. He is a much better player when he is playing there.
In words picked up by The Guardian, Colwill said: “I’ve been a centre-half since I was under-15s; left-back has never really been my main position. I feel at home at centre-half, like I can play my best football, although I will play anywhere to help my team.”
Mauricio Pochettino has more often than not used him as a left back to fill in for injuries, but it became a bit too much and should not have happened as much as it did. This is one of the negatives that Chelsea fans had on Pochettino earlier in the season.
Today though, it is almost definite that Colwill will be starting The League Cup final as a centre back this afternoon.
